Carol King Hood

Carol knew she wanted to become an artist by the time she was 5 years old. Her parents realized this early and arranged for oil painting lessons when she was 8 years old. By eleven, she was studying with well-known Frieda Righter, who taught plein air and life drawing in Haddonfield, NJ.

First coming to Cape May in 1962 where her family vacationed for an extended stay each summer, the young artist developed a love for the seashore and Victorian architecture, although at that time, most of the Painted Ladies were painted white with green trim.  Carol watched a renaissance begin and witnessed Cape May emerge into the Victorian gem you see today.

Carol enjoys variety both in her style of painting and the medium she uses. One may find her working in watercolors, oil, pastel and charcoal drawing, mixed media or sculpted ceramics. No matter her style or medium, color is always her calling card.

Her formal training took place at The Philadelphia College of Art, where she studied illustration and later worked in graphic arts as a designer. She is a member of the Perkins Center of the Arts in Moorestown, NJ and Cape May County Art League in Cape May, NJ. Carol is a member of the National Watercolor Society (NWS). She is represented by William Ris Gallery in Stone Harbor, NJ and displayed in corporate and private collections. She is represented by High Street Fine Art Gallery in Mt. Holly, NJ, William Ris Gallery in Stone Harbor, NJ and Soma New Art Gallery in Cape May.

Currently, Carol and her family have a cottage in Cape May Point, New Jersey.  You may find her paintings in the plein air style around town. Look for her Colorful Original Paintings, Prints, Limited Edition Prints, as well as her popular Greeting Cards, at many fine gift shops. Congress Hall (Tommy’s Follies), Mariah’s Fine Gifts, The Lobster House Gift Shop, Winterwood Gifts on the Mall and many more great stores.
